Lesson 10 of 15
KMD and KMD INF explained
KMD is the VAT return. A VAT-registered company files it with the Tax and Customs Board (EMTA), usually every month, and pays the VAT that is due. KMD INF is an annex that goes with it. It lists the company's sales and purchases partner by partner, so EMTA can match them with the returns of the other companies.
What the KMD shows
The KMD adds up the figures for the period in lines. The main ones are the VAT on your sales, the VAT on your purchases, and the amount to pay or to reclaim. Each line has a code that EMTA uses, and Sapita keeps those codes fixed, so the same line always means the same thing.
What the KMD INF shows
The KMD INF has two parts:
- Part A lists the sales you made to each partner (customer) in the period.
- Part B lists the purchases you received from each partner (supplier) in the period.
Only partner-level lines of at least €1,000 net are included. This is the threshold that EMTA sets for the annex, and it is why small purchases from many suppliers do not appear one by one.
When it is due
The KMD and the KMD INF are due on the 20th of the month after the period. If that day is a weekend or a public holiday, the deadline moves to the next working day, and Sapita shows why in the calendar.
What Sapita does
Sapita collects the lines from your sales and purchases for the period. It prepares the KMD and the KMD INF, and it explains the threshold on each partner line. You review the figures, lock the period, and upload the files in e-MTA. The filing steps are in the next lesson.
