Journal entry
Definition
A journal entry is one recorded transaction. It lists the accounts it changes, with a debit or a credit for each, and the debits must equal the credits. Once posted, an entry is not edited, and a correction is made with a reversal.
Example. Paying a €120 supplier invoice from the bank is one entry: debit payables €120, credit the bank €120.
Why it matters for your company
Every bookkeeping step ends as a journal entry. Reading one line by line is the fastest way to learn why your books say what they say.
Where you see it in Sapita
In the journal view, which is shown in advanced mode, and as the entry behind each invoice or payment.
