Double-entry
Definition
Double-entry is the method in which every transaction is recorded as at least one debit and one credit of the same total. The two sides always balance, and that is how an error in the books shows itself.
Example. A customer pays €500 into the bank. The bank account goes up by €500 (debit) and the receivable goes down by €500 (credit).
Why it matters for your company
Double-entry catches mistakes: if the debits and credits do not match, something is missing. It is also how Sapita keeps the books correct when you post a transaction.
Where you see it in Sapita
In the journal entry view, which shows both sides of each transaction, and in the trial balance check.
