Partial payment
Definition
A partial payment is a payment that is less than the full amount of an invoice. The invoice stays open for the rest, and the receivable shows the amount still due. Several partial payments can settle one invoice.
Example. A €1,000 invoice paid with €600 on one day leaves €400 open on the receivable.
Why it matters for your company
Customers often pay in parts. Recording each part keeps the invoice correct, so you do not chase money that has already come in.
