e-Resident
Definition
An e-Resident is a person who is not an Estonian resident but holds a digital identity issued by Estonia. The identity lets a person run an Estonian company remotely. The company still has to follow the Estonian rules for its books and returns.
Example. A founder living abroad can use an e-Residency identity to sign the annual report for an OÜ registered in Estonia.
Why it matters for your company
Many Estonian OÜs are run by e-Residents. The digital identity lets you sign filings yourself, but it does not make you an Estonian tax resident, so tax rules still depend on where you live.
