What do you start from?Pick the price you have in hand.
Type the amount with cents, for example 1240.00.
Standard is the rate in force on the invoice date.
The date on the invoice. Type it as day.month.year.

How this is worked out

  1. Add VAT. VAT is the net amount times the rate, rounded half up to the cent, once. The gross is the net plus that VAT.
  2. Remove VAT. VAT is the gross amount times the rate, divided by 100% plus the rate, rounded half up to the cent, once. The net is the gross minus that VAT, so the net plus the VAT equals the gross exactly.
  3. Pick the rate. The standard rate is 22% before 1 July 2025 and 24% from that day. Reduced rates are 13% and 9%, and zero is 0%.

Example: a net price of 100.00 at 24% gives VAT of 24.00 and a gross of 124.00. Taking the VAT back out of 124.00 gives 100.00 again.

VAT in Estonia, in short

VAT is added to the price of most goods and services. Your customer pays it on top of your price, and you pass it on to the tax office. When you are registered for VAT, each invoice shows the net price, the VAT and the gross separately.

The rate depends on the date. The standard rate rose from 22% to 24% on 1 July 2025. This calculator picks the standard rate by the invoice date you enter. For advance payments and some other cases the tax date can differ, so check the rules before you file.

Questions

Which VAT rate applies in Estonia from 1 July 2025?
The standard rate is 24% from 1 July 2025. Invoices dated before that day use the 22% rate that applied before. The reduced rates are 13% and 9%, for the goods and services that qualify.
How do I take VAT out of a price that already includes it?
Multiply the gross price by the rate, divide by 100% plus the rate, and round to the cent. At 24% the VAT on a gross of 124.00 is 124.00 × 24 ÷ 124, which is 24.00. The net is the gross minus that VAT.
Does the calculator send my amounts anywhere?
No. The amounts are worked out in your browser and are not sent to Sapita. The site counts page views only.
When do I have to register for VAT?
In Estonia you register when your taxable turnover goes over €40,000 in a calendar year. Check the official rules before you file.

Sapita is software and education, not accounting or tax advice. Check the official rules before you file.
